About me and day one of induction…
June 3, 2008 at 7:29 pm (Induction) (305, Atkins, menu)
Well first let me introduce myself… My name is Lacey, I am 30 years old and I live in the state of Oregon. I have been married for 9 years and have 2 great kids, a boy and a girl. I have struggled with my weight for a lifetime. I have always been the funny fat girl. I had a lot of friends, mostly male friends and that really helped me fit in when I was younger. I was always pretty athletic and played basketball for many of my school years. Even now I still enjoy excercise… especially yoga and pilates.
I have gained about 65-70 pounds over the last 7 or 8 years and am now at my highest weight ever. I am a 305 pound, 5 foot 6 inch woman on a mission. I turned 30 this year and have been plagued with severe neck pain for the last 4 years. Weight loss isn’t an option for me anymore. I want to watch my kids grow up and set a good example for them as well.
Today I started the Atkins diet plan. The first 2 weeks of this plan are called induction and the menu is pretty strict. Carbs must be kept at 20 grams a day or less. I stayed on menu all day except for one slip using balsamic vinegar which is a no no because of the sugar content in it.
No exercise today – I need to work harder on making that part of my everyday life!
Day 1 menu:
Breakfast – 2 hard boiled eggs, 2 cups coffee w/half and half and splenda (5.2 carbs)
Snack – 1 oz cheddar cheese (1 carb)
Lunch – 3 oz can of tuna in water, 1 1/2 cups salad with 1/4 cup of spinach, 1/4 cup bell pepper, 1/2 cup cucumber, 1 tbsp of blue cheese, 1 tbsp of bacon and olive oil/balsamic vinegar dressing (that was a mistake that wont happen again) (7 carbs, dressing got me off track)
Snack – 2 slices canadian bacon and 1 string cheese (2 carbs)
Dinner – 8 oz pork chop, 3/4 cup salad, 3 grape tomatoes, Olive oil/rice vinegar dressing and 3 Brussels sprouts w/butter (4 carbs)
My water intake has exceeded the 8, 8 oz glasses a day so I think I am good there.
Carb Count – 19 carbs total for the day
Reflecting on the day, I think I did ok. I really wish I would have known about the balsamic vinegar before I put it in my mouth. It just goes to show that you cannot assume the carb or sugar content of anything! I will always look from now on! I also think that I am probably slightly over my vegetable limit for the day and will cut some of it tomorrow and opt for more protein instead. Overall I feel good so far and dont feel deprived or hungry. I know without a doubt that I have an addiction to carbs and the mental part of that will be the hardest for me.
Ok, yay me! Off to a decent start with plenty of motivation to spare! Woot!
